LADYTASS,
No more “naïve” than what Casting Directors have decided for over a century.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
FIRST LEFTENANT,
I rather enjoyed MR. ALEC BALDWIN’S performance in THE SHADOW™, particularly since I thought he would have made a better BRUCE WAYNE than M.K. did in 1989.

Daniel Baldwin, huh? Well, I'm...uh....stunned, I guess. I didn't really expect that the folks with the money would try to hyjack the production by suggesting such drastic casting changes. This series was developed for Malcolm, to play to his strengths and talents. Daniel is a chubby, pasty-white third-rate actor. I can't imagine him in the role of a hard-as-nails military commander -- nor do I want to. This reminds me of a situation a friend of mine recently found himself in. This friend has a close-knit team of trusted long-time friends with whom he worked, and together they produced a comedy TV series meant for distribution on local cable. Then, few months back, the mega-mogul suits at FOX learned about the show and offered my friend the lead in a new comedy series if -- and only if -- he was willing to dump his entire production team and go it alone with their people down in L.A. So, do you shrug off your loyal buddies, who helped you get to this point in your career, in order to become a Hollywood TV star? Or do you stick to your guns, refuse FOX's job offer and remain a little-known Canadian comedic actor who still lives in his parents' basement? The role of FINN belongs to you, Malcolm, and you damn well better get it. KJC

I do agree with Showbizgirl This story would not be half as good without Malcolm,I am not sure that the others would have the connection with the fan's that Malcolm already has nor the committment that he has already put into it. Showbizgirl I for one hope your friend made the right choice to keep his friends and dump Hollyjoke He will find his life much happier having real friends and less money.

KJC,
I’ve been trying to get my head around that casting choice, myself, despite his work in HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET™.
Your friend was offered the lead in an entirely different series if he would abandon his allies? Or is it that the executives wanted to revamp the programme that they collectively made a success? Ethics aside, I think that it would benefit your friend to have people whom he knows @ his side in Hollywoodland, particularly if drugs & money are being thrown @ him.
Thank you for your endorsement; I shall do my best to remain worthy of it in the future.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
LADYTASS,
Thank you, also, for I have been criticised harshly for interacting with SF fandom as individual human beings rather than as a commodity to be exploited as one would a herd of sheep.
Producers & actors have actually told me that I should become haughty & aloof in order to build a “mystique”, but if it’s not a blue-skinned member of The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants™, then I’m not interested in that sort of self-imposed alienation.

MALCOLM WROTE: Your friend was offered the lead in an entirely different series if he would abandon his allies? Or is it that the executives wanted to revamp the programme that they collectively made a success?
The execs wanted to revamp the existing program with a whole new crew. My friend is still pondering his decision.
And I'm surprised to hear that you've been criticized for mingling so openly with fans of the fantasy/sci-fi/horror genre, Malcolm. As a publicist and career manager I encourage my clients to keep in touch with their fans, answer questions about their work and reveal just a smidgen about their personal lives (i.e. discuss their hobbies, talk about a movie they just saw, music they enjoy).
As far as I'm concerned, Malcolm, you are doing exactly the right thing to keep your current fans happy -- and encourage those who might not know you well, or at all, to become new fans. As was the case with myself. Nothing ticks me off more than hearing about an actor who completely shuts him/herself off from their fans and treats them with suspicion or distain. That's not 'mystique'. That's arrogance.

KJC,
Thanks for the intel. What did the executives think/feel to be wrong with your friend’s programme that convinced them of the “need” to replace the current crew? If the programme was good enough to get their attention, then why interfere with what makes it work? Or is it purely political power ploy?
I get criticised about it all the time, & have dealt with such unsolicited advice since my days touring in Theatre For Young Audiences, so your endorsement carries a lot of weight with me. I thought & felt then, as now, that when one is affecting the life decisions of other people’s children, it is irresponsible to leave questions unanswered, particularly about the work one has been doing in their space, whether in a gymnasium/auditorium, or in their living room, via the magic of telecommunicative broadcasting.
Arrogant suspicion & disdain are not difficult to sniff out. There have been a few instances of disillusionment when I have witnessed such bad manners from people whose work I have admired, & I have boycotted their work ever since. To my mind, it’s like a domesticated canine snapping @ someone when they attempt to provide it with a lean cut of animal flesh.

If the programme was good enough to get their attention, then why interfere with what makes it work? Or is it purely political power ploy?My friend's show, while creative and funny, was done with a skeleton crew of low-paid or volunteer film school graduates, none of them over age 25. Of course this would make the suits at FOX extremely nervous, especially if they intend to throw a million dollars per episode into it. So, I guess it's only natural to expect them to suggest the hiring of experienced long-time professionals. If memory serves, I believe this same situation befell Ottawa comedian Tom Green. He had a successful talk show on local cable, which eventually caught the eye of some Hollywood suits. They bought Tom's show and allowed a few members of his team to come on board. But 98 percent of the crew were all experienced Americans, some of whom didn't even know who Tom Green was before they were hired to work on his show. Tom's career has had some major ups and downs since he sold out to the Americans -- and married one (ugh!). So, I hope he finds his way again...and soon. KJC

KJC,
Yes, I can understand the concerns of FOX™ executives. Could not a viable solution be to have their own producer/line producer, who would work closely with whomever else was on board in order to make sure that things got done to network specifications? …Or am I the only 1 who recalls MR. PADDY CHAYEFSKY’S excellent screenplay?
I had been following TOM GREEN’S career since his tenure as a rapper with ORGANISED RHYME™, so when I learned that his cable programme had been optioned & that he was to become a Hollywood filmstar, I was impressed by his ability to make the necessary change of mindset @ each stage of his career.
As for marrying an American…perhaps he was in love with the BARRYMORE woman.
