I too am glad to see that Malcolm is still remembered, and am sorry I wasn't able to visit Port Credit to spend a few moments with one or two people and say a few words with those who knew him well. I was lucky enough to be there on his Birthday earlier this year, and I hope to make the same trip to his resting place again this upcoming Birthday. In what can only be considered a horrible co-incidence, I was contacted by family at around 11:30 on the 13th to be informed that my Grandmother in England had died. I wasn't even aware that this date was the same as when Malcolm left us until I came here to read up any new messages. I have contacted friends from our High School Days to inform them of Malcolm's passing and I can honestly say that those who knew him and were close to him would never have believed such a loss was possible. Nor would mental illness have been a consideration either. Malcolm was and will remain a brilliant and funny guy.

anyone who would have you believe it was mental illness is simply clinging to a crutch. it was never mental illness.

Just to be clear, I am saying I know without a shadow of a doubt that Malcolm was not suffering from any mental problems. I agree that anyone who would say so is clearly clutching at straws to try and explain this loss.
Malcolm was the most level headed and smart person I knew, and to consider otherwise would be an insult to his memory.

Just out of curiosity, if he was level headed, why did he shoot a woman three times? Just curious.

...you could ask Malcolm if you wanted Moe. But seeing as he's not here to defend himself, I would guess that's going to remain an unanswered question.
Speaking for myself, I am a very patient, level headed and calm person. And sometimes even then, I still can lose my temper and/or calm and something will happen which I can't control.
Does that help?

moe, Knowing much more about these events than I believe anyone should I can tell you what happened was very logical. Not one thing in the last 48 hours of his life was done on the spur of the moment or without due consideration.
Like many people you are confusing unacceptable behaviour and unfortunate choices with mental illness. The reason that those who know the details have so much trouble with this topic is because none of the reasons for this happening conform to our current societal tolerances and when people who do not know enough to understand the context weigh in on this topic it simply amps up the emotion.
The fact that outsiders who hear some of the details immediately presume the teller is endorsing the actions, or assume this is the appropriate time to share their socio-political agendas simply makes matters worse. It's certainly one reason I stopped sharing what I know.
But perhaps the biggest reason no one had shared these details in a public forum like this is because one day the children of the woman will come across this stuff on the internet and weighed against their mental well-being the "need to know" of others simply doesn't measure.
