Yeah I agree with you there,When reading for pleasure though You are the one that get's to pick the book so if you don't like it,it is your own fault for picking it. There have been a few that I wished I hadn't picked up but not very many. SUN. AUG. 1/2004/23:30 E.S.T.
LADYTASS,
Fortunately, there have only ever been 2 books that I have never finished. Generally speaking, if something starts off badly, I feel compelled to see it through, in case it improves, just as with a film.

TOPPER,
Acknowledged, thanks for the intel!

Well Enterprise is a well used word it may have been Star Trek that brought it to the public conciousness but there have been quite a few other ships that have used the name(The US Fleet has an Enterprise in it at the moment) and it is not the first one even!!The one in service at the moment is CVN-65,She was the first to go nuclear and she is a aircraft carrier,She has served since the 1960's(early) and has seen service since Vietnam.

Lady Tass!
Correct again! ENTERPRISE has a proud, though mostly American, naval history. Roddenberry himself wanted to name the starship YORKTOWN but was convinced to name it ENTERPRISE primarily because of the US Navy Carrier in World War II (ENTERPRISE - CV6) which was one of only two carriers not in Pearl Harbour Dec 7, 1941.
The ship gained further notoriety throughout the war by surviving Japanese suicide runs and on more than one occassion had bombs land on its deck and then roll off or get stuck WITHOUT EXPLODING! Sadly she was decommissioned at the end of the war and sold for scrap rather than honoured with permanent berthing somewhere as a floating museum like so many other craft (including the HMCS HAIDA, docked in Hamilton, ON and a very well maintained Corvette Sub Hunter docked at the Maritime Museum in Halifax, NS)
The class that our ENTERPRISE belongs to all are named after famous Naval ships throughout history, including ATHABASCA, INVINCIBLE, and VICTORY.
******************** First Leftenent, Sorry mate, but there is no foreshadowing here. ENTERPRISE was a posting the character of FINN was assigned to earlier in his career so it merely a reference in his backhistory.

So Malcolm, Just out of curiosity, which are the two books you didn't finish? WED. AUG. 4/2004/19:36 E.S.T.
MS. KITKA,
The books were: THE VAMPIRE LESTAT™ & BLADE RUNNER: REPLICANT NIGHT™, the former because I loathe & despise the eponymous character, the latter because the author has in no way managed to convey any of what made the Dystopian future of SIR RIDLEY SCOTT’S & MR. PHILIP KINDRED DICK’S so appealing to me, including the characters.

MALCOLM, I don't know why PDK's family allows such abuses of his properties. The same can be said of the series TOTAL RECALL which seems tohave more in common with Blade Runner than TR yet fails both.
