Lady Tass,
The best site we can recommend is:
www.tourismtoronto.com. This is the official city of Toronto tourism website, which means its very easy to navigate and the information is very reliable.
There's also
www.toronto.com, but it's a very busy site with lots of pop-ups and other annoyances.
Having said that we'd like to offer the following:
THREE AIRPORTS?
We're scratching our head at this one. Unless they're counting Toronto Island airport I can't imagine what they mean.
Basically there are only two airports serving the region.
PEARSON which is the largest and because its in the middle of a massive expansion, the newest. There are three terminals (Pearson 1, 2 and 3).
and HAMILTON, which is smaller and less crowded but a full hour outside of Toronto. Hamilton is better if you're planning on see the whole region as it's centrally situated between Niagara, Toronto and the village of Milton where Adam is. Don't stay in Hamilton though, you'll be too far away from most of the attractions if you do.
I were coming to visit the area what I'd be doing is planning on some time out at Niagara and some time the other way in Toronto.
Pearson Airport is technically in Mississauga, the suburb directly west of Toronto, but the airport is right on the border. There are many hotels around the airport region including the ones who host the various Sci-Fi conventions each year. Most of the major chains are represented here, but the best deals are usually with the DAYS INN.
The problem with staying there is that getting downtown from the airport isn't easy. You're either taking taxis, or bus, as the rapid transit project is still in planning.
There are lots of malls in the region. Many within a half hour's drive of the airport (non-rush hour), but its better to stay downtown Toronto for a few days and see the city.
EATON'S CENTRE is the largest mall in Toronto (second largest in Ontario), it runs along Yonge Street (the longest continuous road in the world) which also has numerous shops, and Queen Street which is filled with hundreds of unique boutiques.
The HOCKEY HALL OF FAME might seem a silly thing to consider but as museums go, it's not bad. Plenty of interactive things, and the old converted bank where they display the STANLEY CUP (and yes, you can get your picture taken with the cup) is almost funny in its cathedral-ness.
Toronto Harbour has numerous fishing tours but honestly I'd head out of town for that. Although the view of Toronto coming in and out of the harbour is sometimes worth it.
On the islands in the harbour is Centerville. It's a nice place but more family (ie Kids) oriented.
CASA LOMA is Gary's favourite location. He fancies it as the perfect WAYNE MANOR with it's majestic hilltop perch above the city, secret passages and underground tunnel to the garage. But makes sure to get the package that includes SPADINA HOUSE. A much smaller but more lavish mansion across the street that also does tours.
The CN TOWER has a glass floor section on its main deck but the best thing is the SKYPOD, the highest observation deck in North America. Don't bother if its a hazy day as you won't see much, but otherwise it's great!
The Royal Ontario Museum will take a day and really good shoes but it's well worth it. For my money its the second best museum in North American and one of the top five world wide. Not far from this is the BATA Shoe Museum with the history of some people's obsession.
Staying in the city isn't cheap but deals can be had. AAA members get some deals and various chains have packages, you might want to call them up and see what you can get.
The area (known locally at the GTA or Greater Toronto Area) sprawls. If you stay at a hotel near Pearson airport you can expect to take plenty of cabs (although it's possible the hotels have shuttle buses either downtown or to the nearest subway). You won't want to drive downtown, it's busy, chaotic and finding parking can be frustrating.
You might have to hunt a bit but there are good deals at hotels downtown, depending on when you're here.
But at one point or another you're going to want to rent a car. Toronto is nice, but its very urban and sprawls. Seeing just it gives you only one part of the picture.
WEST:
Adam's shop is in a pretty little town west of Toronto called Milton. His shop is one block off a very nice, quaint, almost New England style main street that has some pretty nice stores. Milton also has some nice nature trails in the bluffs.
EAST:
Scarborough Bluffs. For some reason many people coming to visit T.O. have to include a trip to Scarborough Bluffs. It's just a cliff but hey, if that's your thing then great. For my money, on the east side of Toronto, is a great little area called BEACHES. There's a boardwalk on the beach which is very active in the summer and a short walk up, on Queen Street, is the community beaches with one of the most lively shopping areas in town. Almost like San Francisco! North of that is the DANFORTH. If you'd like to spend a day being Greek then this is your place. Much of "MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING" was filmed around this area.
NORTH:
If you're into rides there's Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Right near it is the new boutique mall of VAUGHN MILLS. There's a Sport Bass shop there almost two football fields long, and many other amazing one of a kind, and chain stores. Bring good shoes, its HUGE!
SOUTH:
You head west back to Hamilton and then around Lake Ontario to get to Niagara Falls. Everyone should see the falls at least once but stay over night, get a room at the FALLSVIEW or one of the other hotels overlooking the falls at night and then drive the parkway down stream all the way along the valley up to the little town of Niagara on the Lake. The main street at N-O-T-L is very Colonial Victorian, you can enjoy High Tea at the Shaw Cafe, wander the shops and then go to the Angel Inn for dinner, an old British Pub style Inn with the best steaks in the area.
As for touring TITAN. Right now where a spread out collective of home offices. Not very impressive. Like any independent production group we rent the studio space as we need it. But who knows, if any of the projects are going while you're up we'll give you a tour for sure! At the very least you can bet Gary and Malcolm will want to meet up with you!
